Lipstick, Gloss or Pencils?

Glossy and shimmering in powdery pink, naked with sparkling touches or classic red and matte? To pick the best products for getting beautiful lips is a challenge. Here are the expert’s tips to help you succeed!
Have you ever wondered how to get that perfect pout, or are you simply curious which products that will work wonders for your unique lip shape? We decided to get the expert’s best tips for lips for every style. We met with Oriflame Global Artistic Beauty Director Jonas Wramell to catch up on his best tricks.

What should you consider when choosing lipstick? – If you’re young you can try a fairly light pigmentation: light pink, beige, nude, soft pink, vintage rose. You can add some glitter as well if you like, a little shine. I think the older you get, the more you can move towards a more moisturised texture, moving on to a matte lipstick if you wish. Also I think that the more pigment you want, the more matte your shade of lipstick should be. So if you go for a ‘rouge noir’, you want it to be matte because that colour looks better than a similar one with a high shine.

What is the difference between liquid lipstick and lip gloss?–A lip gloss always gives shine to your lips. That’s the whole point of gloss. A liquid lipstick gives your lips pigment but not always shine. It can just create a beautiful moisturising feel.

What is a hybrid product?– A hybrid is a mix of lip gloss, lipstick and lip taint – all in one.

When do you recommend using a lip liner?– You can use a lip liner when you want to add a little shape. It’s also great for correcting as most often, we have a slightly crooked upper lip, or the contour fades out with age, or there’s a drop in pigmentation, then I recommend using a lip liner. You can also use it if you want a very bold, long-lasting effect. Sometimes I use a little liner, blurring the line a little with my finger –without adding anything on top.

6 EXPERT WAYS TO USE YOUR MASCARA

The classic up and out-technique seems to be a universal way of applying mascara, but it’s far from the only option. So, to broaden your horizons we’re sharing 6 new ways to get great looking eyes!
1. WIGGLE THE BRUSH
Love a curl that lasts? Then applying mascara evenly throughout the length of your lashes is a big no-no! Instead, you should apply a thicker coat at the roots, by wiggling the brush back and forth, and then gently comb the mascara towards the tips.
2. APPLY MASCARA VERTICALLY
After a more natural look? It’s easy! All you need to do is to flip the mascara wand and apply the product vertically. Use the tip of the brush and run it along the length of your lashes. VoilĂ  – longer, more natural-looking lashes at an instant!
3. FOCUS ON THE MIDDLE
Who doesn’t want big, round eyes? We know we do! So how is it achieved? Start by mentally dividing your eye into three parts. Then apply mascara to the middle part only, using the tip of the brush in a wiggling upward motion. You’ll see results straight away!
4. APPLY MASCARA DIAGONALLY
Another way to make your eyes look bigger is to apply mascara diagonally. The key to this technique is to pull the brush at an angle, instead of running it from the roots and upwards. Then finish off the look by giving your outer corners some extra attention.
5. PINCH EYELASHES TOGETHER
Doll-eyes is another highly sought-after look that’s not very hard to achieve. Also called spider lashes, this look features super-thick lashes pinched together into points. Get it by applying lots of mascara and then use tweezers to press a few lashes together.
6. BEND THE TIP OF THE WAND
Find it hard to access the inner corners of your eyes? Then this trick is for you! Gently bend the tip of the wand (where the brush is) in a 90° angle from the handle, and the wand will be much easier to control. However, once it’s bent you might not be able to straighten it out again, so keep that in mind before trying!

THE SKIN CARE EXPERT’S GIFT GUIDE

Skin care products are excellent gifts, but they can be intimidating to buy for someone else. So we asked our skin care loving Beauty Editor, Jeanette Olsson, to give her best gift tips for the whole family. Problem solved!

MUM
“One of the most common sign of ageing, for women over 40, is loss of firmness and contour. Therefore, I would suggest getting mum a NovAge Ultimate Lift skin care set. It’s powered by our patented technology, AspartoLift, and is clinically proven to give skin 70% more bounce in 12 weeks. You could also treat her to a little luxury with NovAge Nutri6 Facial Oil Capsules. Their blend of six nutrient-rich, natural oils will deeply nourish the skin and add much needed protection for the winter months.”

DAD
“People may not think this, but men need a skin care routine just as much as women do. External factors like shaving, and internal factors like an excess production of sebum, means that men’s skin are in need of hydration. So give your father skin care products from our North For Men range. They are rich in antioxidants and re-energising ingredients. It’s also good for dad to protect his skin after shaving – so an aftershave balm is great to reduce skin irritation.”

SISTER
“The 20s is really the time to start building a foundation for anti-ageing. So, I would recommend getting your sister a NovAge True Perfection skin care set. It purifies the skin cells, minimises pores and protects the skin from free radicals. One common sign of ageing, that makes people look older than they are, is uneven skin tone. So, help her look young for longer with the Optimals Even Out range. It works wonders to lighten pigmentation and inhibit melanin production.”

TEENAGER
“Teens often suffer from spots, blackheads and whiteheads due to a hormonal shift. Therefore, it’s crucial to cleanse and exfoliate to get rid of the build-up of dead skin cells and excess oil. The Pure Skin range uses a combination of Salicylic Acid, Detect Technology and Superfruit extracts to help prevent breakouts. And for those days when the oiliness gets out of hand, or your teen is on the go, Optimals Oxygen Boost Face Blotting Tissues are great for shine free skin.”

GRANDPARENTS
“As our bodies produce fewer natural lipids and the skin-renewal process slows down, dryness is one of the most common concerns for mature skin. So, why not get your grandparents one or two of our amazing Tender Care Protective Balms. They contain natural beeswax and vegetable oils that will restore softness and prevent further moisture loss.”

5 MAKEUP MISTAKES THAT ARE MAKING YOU LOOK OLDER

The way you apply your makeup can have a great effect on how young (or old) you look. So we asked Oriflame Artistic Director, Jonas Wramell, to walk us through the most common ageing makeup mistakes - and to tell us how to fix them!
MISTAKE #1: GETTING STUCK IN THE PAST
“Generally, people that are unhappy with their age try to mimic the look they had 10 years ago – but that only makes them look older! Rather than trying to make yourself look younger, remember that makeup is about maximising your beauty. Steer clear of dated techniques: thick lip liner, heavy black under-eye liner and over-plucked eyebrows, as these will all add years to your face.”

MISTAKE #2: USING THE WRONG MAKEUP BASE
“Heavy foundations will cake in fine lines and enhance them, so as your skin ages look for a moisturising foundation with a lightweight texture. Avoid using too much foundation that can sit in wrinkles. On the topic of base: skip matte powder altogether. Instead, use products with a bit of shine – dewy, glowing skin will look younger than matte skin.”

MISTAKE #3:  USING THE WRONG SHADE OF BLUSH
“A flushed complexion can instantly freshen your face, but using the wrong shade of blush to achieve it, will do the exact opposite. Avoid using brown coloured blush, which can look dull and muddy. A peachy tone on the other hand will add warmth, neutralising and brightening your cheeks. To add a youthful glow to my older clients’ skin, I always dab a bit of blush on the apple of their cheeks.”

MISTAKE #4:  USING GLITTERY OR SHIMMERY EYE SHADOW
“Using glittering or shimmering powder-based eye shadows is a big mistake. Because of the texture, these products can stick in fine lines and creases, which only magnifies your wrinkles! These might work when you’re young, but cut back as you get older. I suggest using a satin or matte finish around your eyes instead.”

MISTAKE #5: THINKING MORE IS MORE
“Don’t overcomplicate your makeup. Go for a look that is simple: use a great quality mascara, a hydrating foundation, peach-toned blush and a natural looking lipstick - you don’t need much more to get a beautiful, natural and fresh look. Put away the heavy-duty makeup. As you get older, it’s about less is more.”
